  • Ruler or measuring tape

Optional:

  • Acrylic paint or wood stain (if you want to customize colors)

  • Sandpaper (for smoothing edges)

Step-by-Step Directions

1. Prep Your Pieces

If your wooden shapes are unfinished, you can leave them natural for a minimalist look or paint/stain them to match your space.

Let everything dry completely before assembling.

2. Cut Your Strings

Cut several pieces of string in varying lengths. For example:

  • 2 shorter pieces (for the sides)

  • 2 medium pieces

  • 1 longer center piece

Tip: Varying lengths create that cascading, balanced look.

3. Attach Shapes to String

Tie or glue one wooden shape to the end of each string.

  • If your shapes have holes: simply thread and knot

  • If not: use a small dab of hot glue on the back

Make sure knots are secure so they don’t slip.

4. Tie Strings to the Dowel

Lay your dowel rod flat and start attaching each string:

  • Space them evenly across the rod

  • Tie each string with a simple knot (or double knot for security)

Start from the center and work outward to keep things balanced.

5. Add the Hanging Cord

Cut one longer piece of string and tie each end to the sides of the dowel.

This creates a triangle shape for hanging on a hook or nail.

Adjust the length depending on how high you want it to hang.

6. Adjust and Style

Hold up your wall hanging and:

  • Trim any uneven strings

  • Adjust spacing if needed

  • Make sure everything hangs straight
